Today I had the honour of joining many others from our community to celebrate Guelph’s former Mayor John Counsell. The service was excellent and was in John’s home church St.George’s Anglican Church.
Past Mayor Kate Quarrie and past MP William (Bill) Winegard brought stories of John that told of his love for his wife, the arts, his piano, his profession in the banking industry and his leadership for three terms as our Mayor.
The River Run centre was his focus and dream for our community and how blessed we are as a city to enjoy that place. He left his mark. Not only as mayor but through relationships with others.
I was joined by several past and current councillors and mayors. Norm Jary, Kate Quarrie and I were able to get together after the service for this wonderful picture I will always cherish.
John’s motto in life was “Service above self”. Something we all should be striving for in our great city.
