Sad Day in The Guthrie Household. #Guelph

Today we had to say goodbye to our beloved dog Narf.

He was 15 years old, and let us tell you, he didn’t miss a beat. He came into our lives for free from a farm back in 2000. Rachel thought I was turning the car around for a garage sale and was not a happy camper! She became much happier when she saw that the sign actually read “Free Puppies”!

He was there to welcome both Anakin and Adelaide home from the hospital and instantly became their protector. He got into all sorts of things: from boxes of chocolate, moldy bread, all of the Halloween candy one year, crab shells and yes, even a stuffed hamster (don’t ask).

There wasn’t one day he didn’t welcome us with his warm smile – morning, noon or night. He was an incredible dog who will be deeply missed. Today though, we can hope, and feel like we know, that he’s in a much better place.

Hug your pets folks.

Sad news Cam. Condolences to you and your family. I have been mentioning Narf on the birthday club for so many years. I’ve been there myself. It hurts so much when you lose your buddy. Rest in peace Narf.

Been there myself, about seven years ago (two days before my birthday, even). Definitely a heartbreaker. Even being in Zehrs and taking a wrong turn down the pet aisle brought me to tears. He looked like a good dog, and undoubtedly had a great life with you and your family.

Thought I’d never have room enough in my heart to allow another pooch in, but four months ago, our neighbours let us know of a lady who needed to find a home for her four year-old golden retriever named Molly. It had to be fate: the same age as our previous golden when we got her, and the same name, too. Still, it took seven years before I was able to bring a new dog into my life.

If you ever happen to see a golden out for a walk in Margaret Greene park or in the Marksam Road area, that’s likely Molly, and she’d be more than happy to take a few scratches if you need a canine fix. Actually, she’s already filling this need for another neighbour who lost her dog in July.
