City to start contract negotiations with paramedics, theatre stage
Guelph, ON, October 14, 2015 – Collective bargaining will start this month between the City and two of its union groups—the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) Local 231 that represents the City’s paramedics, and the City’s theatre stage employees represented by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 357.Last night, Council provided its collective bargaining mandate that directs staff to negotiate contracts that are fair to City employees—whose work is valued every day—reasonable and affordable for Guelph citizens, and within the City’s capacity to pay.
The City is scheduled to meet with IATSE on October 19 and has proposed an initial meeting with OPSEU on October 26.
The contract for the 36 part-time technicians who provide lighting, sound, rigging, and carpentry work at the River Run Centre expired December 31, 2014. This past March the contract for the Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Service’s 157 full-and part-time paramedics ended.
