#Guelph Raises The Poppy Banner to Start the Poppy Campaign & Remembrance Events!

The raising of the Poppy Banner always marks the start of the annual Poppy Campaign and Remembrance events in our city.

I had the privilege and honour of being given the first poppy for 2015 from the members of the Guelph Legion.

I want to thank the members of the Guelph Legion for the incredible job you do in promoting remembrance – on November 11th and throughout the year.

I also want to thank the young cadets who take part in the poppy campaign, and play an important role in Remembrance Day ceremonies.

Most of all, on behalf of the people of Guelph, I want to offer our deepest gratitude to veterans.

I am proud to wear a poppy as a symbol of my respect and appreciation for all who have served.

I raised the banner with vet Grant Johnston, who was 96 years old. Here I am pictures with him and Chief of police Jeff DeRuyter.

Let’s wear those poppy’s Guelph!
