City hosts open house for next phase of $30 million water and sewer project

Guelph, ON, March 1, 2016—The City is hosting an open house on March 8 to share information about the next phase of the York Trunk Sewer and Paisley Clythe Feeder Main project, and planned improvements to Waterworks Place. The construction route for 2016 travels from Gordon Street, alongside the Speed River, through York Road and Eramosa River parks, and along Waterworks Place to York Road.

Phase two of the York Trunk Sewer and Paisley Clythe Feeder Main project includes the full closure of Gordon Street for a two to three week period, and impacts to some sports fields, trails and playgrounds in the York Road and Eramosa River parks. The construction route passes through an area that was used as a landfill until 1958, and accepted both industrial and residential waste. The City has completed extensive environmental testing, including groundwater and soil tests, to prepare for this important construction project.

The open house provides an opportunity for the community to see the project timeline and route, and to learn how the City is prepared to manage soil and waste material from the historical landfill.

Background:

The York Trunk Sewer Paisley-Clythe Feeder Main is a $30 million, multi-year infrastructure project. It is the City’s largest water main and wastewater (sanitary) sewer project. It includes the installation of about 6.2 kilometres of water pipes and 3.8 kilometres of sewer pipes. The City’s 2009 Water and Wastewater Servicing Master Plan identified the projects as priorities to meet our community’s existing and future water and wastewater servicing needs.
