City to unveil Downey Road redesign options at public workshops:

Community to evaluate traffic calming features June 23 and 28

Guelph, Ont., June 20, 2016—The City of Guelph is hosting community workshops on June 23 and 28 to present three conceptual traffic calming design options for Downey Road. Residents are invited to comment on their preferred option and evaluate traffic calming features.

“Based on public feedback and extensive traffic analysis, the City is ready to present the community with conceptual design options and preferred traffic calming measures for Downey Road,” says Allister McIlveen, the City’s manager of Transportation Services. “The design options address the traffic and safety concerns raised by local residents while meeting the needs of drivers, transit users, pedestrians and cyclists.”

The Downey Road Transportation Improvement Study aims to implement the Council-approved Cycling Master Plan while addressing traffic volume and speed related issues along the section of Downey Road between Woodland Glen Drive and Teal Drive.

The study’s final recommendations, to be presented to Council in September, will include the addition of bike lanes and traffic calming measures.
