#Guelph & Region Short Listed to Host 2021 Canada Summer Games!

The City of Guelph is proud to be a member of a joint (Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and Guelph) bidding process for the 2021 Canada Summer Games.

If you recall, in April 2016 City Council endorsed a Letter of Intent to participate in Phase I of the bidding process.

Phase II of the bidding process, involves the development of more detailed plans, including areas such as revenue generation, community engagement, volunteer recruitment and rationale for hosting the Games.
The Bid Committee will be coming back to each respective council over the next 2-3 months to outline further commitments required to host the 2021 Canada Games.

The Bid Evaluation Committee appointed by the Canada Games Council, will make a site visit to the region, during the last week of February 2017 for final presentation of the bid plan.

The winning community to host the 2021 Canada Summer Games will be announced on March 30th or 31st, 2017 in Toronto.

What can we do to help?

So the city wants to levy a “special tax” to pay for past mistakes by Council and Staff because all reserves have been drained and yet wants to get involved in another money loser if you go by how past host cities end up footing the left over bills after the profits go into a mysterious black ether of the private world. Something wrong with this picture. Please stop subsidizing private enterprise as a so called “partner” when the taxpayers have to foot the bills for that partner.
