Music Weekends – a new and exciting live music series in Downtown Guelph

Launching in Downtown Guelph in January 2017, Music Weekends is an exciting new live music project developed in partnership with Regional Tourism and various local music promoters.  Over 20 performances will take place every Saturday and Sunday afternoon at various downtown venues for 10 weeks from January 7th to March 12th.

With the support of Hillside, Kazoo Fest, GAIN, Silence, CFRU and Kaleidoscope Music, the series will present a wide-ranging program of swing, bluegrass, roots, afro-funk, 60s surf and more.

Guelph is well known for its indie band scene that thrives after dark throughout the year.  The Music Weekends series aims to bring that scene to those of us who rarely make it out in the evenings and would still like to enjoy live performances with our friends and family.  Bring the kids !  These pay-what-you-can (PWYC) events are open to music lovers of all ages.

The series will launch at the eBar on Saturday January 7th.  Between her recording sessions in Nashville, LA and Toronto, Lily Frost will treat us to her ‘swingabilly Americana’ style from 2pm.  Many other warm and friendly downtown venues such as The Cornerstone, Sip Club,  Planet Bean, Red Brick Cafe and The Common will host quality performances throughout the 10 week program.

New to downtown, Robusta Café and Lounge in the new River House Condominiums at the corner of Woolwich and Macdonell are looking forward to a performance by the Jason Raso Trio on January 15th, and Hillside will present performances during Hillside Inside in February.

Says Marie Zimmerman, Executive Director of Hillside, “a  vibrant music city has events happening at all hours in all sorts of places.  We are lucky to have a downtown core with a myriad venues for music gatherings, and even luckier to have a business association that recognizes the value in not only offering afternoon concerts but also partnering with local music presenters to bring them to life.  We feel privileged to be included in the DGBA’s project and excited about the crazy-wonderful concerts we can produce with them”.
