National Indigenous History Month

June is National Indigenous History Month. This is an opportunity to celebrate and learn about the rich history and heritage of Indigenous peoples in Canada. There is much to learn about in our own city, because Guelph is situated on treaty land and is home to many First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people today.

A learning portal available at canada.ca/national-indigenous-history-month is a great place to start.

A brief local history and context about the Land Acknowledgement that is spoken before each Council meeting can be found at guelph.ca/council.

The Guelph Public Library also has a great collection of books and materials about Indigenous heritage, including books for kids.
