I got out my gold shovel for the best possible reason today – for the official groundbreaking for the new, 32-unit supportive housing project on Shelldale Crescent.
Back in January 2019 when I first convened the Task Force on Homelessness and Community Safety, all the partners around the table told me that what our community really needs is permanent supportive housing. At that time, a project like this was a dream. Today, it’s becoming a reality. And in an amazingly short time – thanks to the incredible partners, including Skyline (who donated the land and a ton of expertise and planning support), other private businesses, Kindle, all levels of government (City, County, Provincial, Federal), the Task Force for Poverty Elimination, and many community agencies and partners. Also community fundraising – you can still donate to the Home for Good campaign.
