#Guelph Official Statement: Orlando Shooting #PrayForOrlando

Guelph, Ont., June 13, 2016 – The City of Guelph is lowering the city flag to half-staff to signal solidarity with the people of Orlando, Florida, and the LGBTQ2 community.
“I am appalled and deeply saddened after learning about the mass shooting in Orlando,” says Guelph’s mayor Cam Guthrie. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all whom have been affected. Sadly, this weekend’s events are a reminder that hate is out there, and that embracing hate has deadly consequences, not only for the LGBTQ2 community, but all individuals, families and for our entire society. The Orlando shooting reminds us we need to be vigilant in advocating for human rights for every person, every day.”

“The people of Guelph grieve alongside the people of Orlando and with those in the LGBTQ2 community,” says Guelph’s Chief Administrative Officer Derrick Thomson. “We offer our support and our sympathies.”

On behalf of City Council and the corporation of the City of Guelph, the mayor and CAO extend their condolences to the families and friends who lost loved ones in the shooting, and prayers for the recovery of those who suffered injuries.

Guelph stands in solidarity with Orlando and with the LGBTQ2 community.

  1. So hard to understand the unconceivable hate out there….and the freedom of getting guns to take the lives of people you don’t know, and have no reason to judge!!
